Adventurous Elopements

Say your vows on a cliff overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, in the depths of a mossy forest, in a meadow of wildflowers, with the mist of a waterfall swirling around you, or anywhere your heart desires.  The Pacific Northwest hosts some of the world’s most beautiful and accessible landscapes, and I can’t wait to help you create an adventure that perfectly fits your love story. My extensive background as an award-winning landscape and wedding photographer gives me a long list of stunning local spots to share.

Modern elopements hark back to the 18th century where couples would travel to Scotland to wed in such places as Gretna Green, free to profess their intentions in front of two witnesses, perform a handfasting, and be married.  While your father-in-law may not be in hot pursuit with a sword and a band of angry Englishmen nowadays, the freedom and joy of marrying surrounded by the beauty of nature remains an enchanting alternative to the fuss of a larger affair.

Eloping then throwing a big party later? I offer a flexible combination collection.

Always Included

  • In-depth guidance on picking a gorgeous place to elope, or guidance maximizing the location you’ve already chosen

  • Timeline creation and adjustments

  • Artistically-mastered photographs provided via thumb drive and online gallery, plus prints and an album on certain collections

  • Assistance on finding the perfect accoutrements: cake, flowers, dresses, etc.

  • Local advice you need on places to visit, where to eat, breweries, hikes, etc.

To Make It Legal, You’ll Need:

  • A marriage license from the state where you’re getting married

  • An officiant from the area you’re eloping (see my resources page for recommendations), or an ordained friend or family member

**I am ordained and can sign paperwork to make it legal if you’re planning to exchange your vows and don’t wish to have an officiated ceremony

  • Two witnesses (I’m happy to be one if needed, if I’m not already signing your paperwork)

Considerations

  • Extra adventurous? Ask about hidden gems up rocky forestry roads, longer hikes, etc.

  • As a general rule, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the quietest days and best for avoiding crowds

  • Early mornings or evenings are usually best for beautiful light (I can always help you pick the right time of day)

  • An elopement film is a fantastic companion to your photographs, and Jonathan is happy to be a second witness as needed

Traveling?

  • I travel outside of the Pacific Northwest regularly and am happy to join you on your adventures

  • Travel costs are reasonable, and usually involve a plane ticket or mileage, lodging, visa fees if applicable, and a method of transportation as needed

  • Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about domestic or international availability—I always do my best to say yes to more adventure!
